and “copycat ideas”!

Hello! I’m Agawa, a newcomer on the techo team.

Welcome to the start of Hobonichi Techo Kaigi, our annual series where Hobonichi staff members share their struggles and deliberation process as they pick their next year’s books. We hope you’ll join in and hold your own techo meeting at home, too!

Here are the books I’m leaning toward partnering with for 2027:

Book 1: Daily Schedule & Work

Since this will be my primary, most-used techo, I’m choosing it carefully based on my own personal habits and tendencies making sure it matches me.

The Cover on Cover I used this year was super durable and stain-resistant — absolutely perfect for someone as clumsy as myself.

I know there's all kinds of varying degrees and levels to somethings strength and dirt resistance, but I recommend the smooth types (*my personal nickname for them) to anyone who:
・Frequently forgets their umbrella and gets caught in the rain
・Tends to spill their coffee
・Often gets their hands messy while snacking

In the Day-Free book itself, I rely heavily on the Monthly Calendar pages. To keep the pages from looking overly cluttered with text, I draw my own encrypted doodles to represent personal plans.

You probably have no idea what I’ve drawn here, right?

The problem is that I’ve been running out of space — and honestly, lately I’ve even started forgetting what my own drawings mean!

That’s when I got an idea from some people I interviewed recently. One person was using two techos for work, and another was a total Weeks master , which made me want to copy them! So, I decided to add a Weeks as a secondary work book to lighten the load.

Book 2: Secondary Work Techo

Without hesitation, I picked the special Moomin edition Weeks featuring “A Day in the Life of Snufkin” as my second work techo!

The Japanese Moomin Weeks for 2027 is a special edition packed with quotes from Moomin characters throughout the pages! The illustrations are delightful, making it a joy just flipping through the book.

My plan is to use my first techo (the Day-Free) for monthly calendars and general notes, and this weeks for detailed to-do lists.

Book 3: Journal

For my journal, I’m also copying someone else!
2027 isn’t a particularly milestone year for me, but everyone I know who uses a 5-Year Techo says it’s so much fun that I’m making my sudden debut!

That said, I also really loved the HON cover by Kubota that I used this year, so I’m still torn.

It’s so exciting to try something different from my usual routine by copying others and going with the flow!

Then again, as I read through all the upcoming Techo Kaigi posts published between now and late September, I’ll probably get inspired to copy even more ideas — and end up using a completely different set of books altogether!
