Virginia Lee BurtonPicture Book - The Little House (Japanese edition)

  • 2026 New

This is a Japanese edition of the popular picture book by American children’s book author Virginia Lee Burton, first published in 1942.

A little house spends quiet days filled with the changing of the seasons on top of a hill in the countryside. Its only companion is a neighboring apple tree.

However, gradually, the carriages turn into cars, the environment around the house begins to develop as iron tracks and high-rise buildings are built, and people start to run around with increasingly busy lives...

Seventy years since its first publication in Japan, this book continues to be loved by many.

Born in Massachusetts, Virginia Lee Burton lived and worked in Folly Cove in the suburbs of Boston as a picture book author and textile designer.

First released in 1942, The Little House was recipient of the Caldecott Medal for illustration, one of the most prestigious American awards for picture books.

While publishing other notable children’s books including Choo Choo and Katy and the Big Snow among others, she also worked in the world of textiles and graphics.

The story of a little house reminds us of the beauty and richness of the passing days—of morning and night, and the changing seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. We hope you enjoy this book alongside your techo.
