This is a collaboration techo with the SUPER Famicom™ game “MOTHER 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back!” (EarthBound in North America, released by Nintendo Co., Ltd. in 1994), for which Shigesato Itoi was the game designer. It features the main image from The Secret of MOTHER 2 event hosted by Hobonichi in the summer of 2024.









The Secret of MOTHER 2 was an exhibition that displayed materials used during the development of MOTHER 2. This cover design shows the clay models used in the official guidebook that were also on display, and overlays it with a line from the game written by Shigesato Itoi. These figurines were pulled out of storage for the first time in thirty years and were photographed in black and white by photographer Hiroshi Hatano.









The manuscript under Ness shows the lines in the game that translated into English as “A Beatles song, XXXterday. Can you fill in the blanks?”, and you answer either Yes or No. This, of course, was also written by Shigesato Itoi.









The back cover has a print of the MOTHER 2 logo in a glossy silkscreen print that protrudes slightly from the surface. The gold 2 stands out from the monochrome design.



The cover has been constructed as a light hardcover book with some give to it so it still bends.









This Weeks comes with a set of Mr. Saturn paper clips as a special bonus: one “In disguise.” and one “Boing.” The designs are printed on both the back and the front.









The Mr. Saturn pixel art clip has dotted lines on it. If you clip it to your techo or a note, it can provide a guide so Mr. Saturn can peek over the top.



This design is packed with the secrets of MOTHER 2’s creativity, and now it’s featured on a techo book cover. You can reminisce on the time when the game was in development while feeling inspired to come up with new ideas.
