This is a collaboration techo with the SUPER Famicom™ game “MOTHER 2: Gyiyg Strikes Back!” (EarthBound in North America, released by Nintendo Co., Ltd. in 1994), for which Shigesato Itoi was the game designer. This HON book’s cover features clay figurines specially made for use in the official MOTHER 2 guidebook. The background of the design has vibrant color blocks for a pop-culture vibe.
These figurines were made back when MOTHER 2 was released in 1994. The design uses a photograph of the clay figurines for the main character Ness alongside Paula, Jeff, Mr. Saturn, Ness’s loyal dog King, and a Starman. The photo has been unedited so you can enjoy seeing the figurines in their natural state, including all the wear and tear that has happened over time. 
The back of the book cover includes more clay figurines for not only Poo and Pokey, but other popular characters such as Dr. Andonuts, Bubble Monkey, and the Mach Pizza Guy. Foil-pressed in white near the bottom are the logos for MOTHER 2 and Hobonichi. 
The book spine also includes some prints of the figurines so you can see the character’s faces when your techo is on the bookshelf and feel joy at the sight of them. 
This HON comes with a set of Mr. Saturn paper clips as a special bonus: one “In disguise.” and one “Boing.” The designs are printed on both the back and the front.
The Mr. Saturn pixel art clip has dotted lines on it. If you clip it to your techo or a note, it can provide a guide so Mr. Saturn can peek over the top.
This cover design allows everyone to spend the next year alongside the beloved characters of MOTHER 2 over 30 years after its initial release.
The bookbinding on the HON has thread-stitch binding similar to the Hobonichi Techo books, so it opens 180 degrees onto the table. It stays flat even if you don’t hold it down. 
The book uses thin and light yet durable Tomoe River paper. It's characterized by its ability to hold ink well and provide a smooth writing experience. 
The back of the book has bonus pages, including Memories 2026, 12 Switches to Help You Focus, and For a Comfortable Night’s Sleep. 
As a special exclusive only for the HON, this techo comes with a pencil board. The board is clear, with 5mm grid lines printed across it. There are measurements printed along one side in 1mm increments, which allow for use as a ruler. It also has a pen holder attached to it where users can store pens by their clips.

- About the included pencil board
The pen hook on the pencil board can hold a pen by its clip.
- About the paper used (techo)
The Tomoe River paper designed for planners is known for its thinness and smooth writing surface. However, depending on the type and amount of ink or pen used—as well as environmental conditions—some ink may bleed through or take longer to dry. We recommend testing your pens on an inconspicuous area first, or using a pencil board or blotting paper for best results.
- Apology and correction for Bonus Page in the English Hobonichi Techo 2026 books
In the 2026 English editions of the Hobonichi Techo HON (A6/A5), there was an error in the name of the supervisor listed on the bonus page titled 'For a Comfortable Night’s Sleep.'
