MOTHERNess’ BikeA5 Cousin Size

    This cover design is based on Shigesato Itoi's 1994 Super Nintendo game, MOTHER 2 (EarthBound in North America). It features Ness riding on a bicycle, debossed on the leather surface of this A6 size cover.



    The deep brown, genuine leather is stamped firmly enough to feel it with your fingertips. The leather is tanned with tannin, a vegetable-derived ingredient. The more you use the cover, the deeper the color becomes, and the more character it develops. You can enjoy this transformation of the leather over time.







    The back of the cover makes use of the pixel art featured in the town of Twoson, where Ness first gets the bicycle.







    When you open the cover, there are four slit-type pockets where you can store business cards and other cards. The right-hand pocket is etched with a large MOTHER 2 logo for a nice accent.



    The cloth part of the cover is printed with a map of Twoson. You can see the house of Paula — the first one to join your party — and the theater where you can see the Runaway Five, as well as Burglin Park where all kinds of things are on sale. You can see Ness riding a bicycle next to the “Punk-Sure” shop that offers bicycle rentals.







    The right side of the cover includes a pen hook, which can hold a pen by its clip. The bookmark ribbons are yellow and blue to match Ness’ striped shirt.







    This cover comes with a Kraken Zip-up Bag based on one of the iconic boss characters in MOTHER 2. Now you can have this monster of the sea, feared by all sailors, swallow up the items you use frequently.







    You can store sticky notes, lip balm, medicine, or other small items in this palm-sized clear case to stop them from scattering about in your bag. When you pull it out of your bag, feel free to use it and exclaim dramatically:

    There are a total of 5 MOTHER collaboration covers in the 2025 Hobonichi Techo lineup. There’s an A6 and A5 cover with the “Ness’ Bike” design, an A6 and A5 size HON book with the “You come buying? You can sell, too.” design, and a Weeks book with the “Smiles & Tears” design.

    The Hobonichi Techo leather covers are made with all-natural materials that have their own unique appearance. Every leather cover is a one-of-a-kind, all-natural product, so you can feel good knowing your cover is the only one like it in the world. Here are some of the unique characteristics you can expect to find.

    A lineup that evokes the background music of MOTHER 2

    The Hobonichi Techo 2025 MOTHER series is a collaboration with the MOTHER 2 game, which has its 30th anniversary in 2024.



    The “Ness’ Bike” techo cover is a deep brown leather cover with a simple shape. You can see Ness riding a bicycle in this design that has a mature look with a touch of cuteness.



    There’s also a cloth material printed with the map. You can’t see it once you tuck your techo book into the cover, but there’s something really happy about knowing you’re carrying it around with you like a secret. Ness’ Bike is named after the track on the soundtrack, which plays when Ness rides the bicycle.



    The “You come buying? You can sell, too.” design for the HON features the shop run by Mr. Saturn in Saturn Valley. The moss green background is reminiscent of a chalkboard, and the sections of the game graphics printed onto the cover are the only parts that are gloss silk printed for a nice shine. You can feel that part sticking out from the design.



    The Weeks “Smiles & Tears” book is filled with memories that those who have played MOTHER 2 will surely recognize if they’ve beaten the game. There are a total of 32 scenes in which the Camera Man can come to take a picture of the main characters, and we’ve chosen 25 of them to feature in this design. The Smiles & Tears name comes from the name of the song that plays as the credits roll. Hearing this song play while seeing all the memories of the adventures touched the hearts of a lot of players. There’s something neat about seeing all these scenes newly depicted in a sepia tone.



    The exclusive bonus item for the MOTHER covers in the 2025 lineup is a zip-up bag with the Kraken. You meet the Kraken on a ship bound for Scaraba. It’s an enemy boss that’s very strong with a very cool graphic. It’s a really funny scene overall. I wanted the bonus to be something fun that would make MOTHER fans smirk happily when they see it, and the Kraken seemed perfect for the job.
